Discover The Best Places To Stay In Hakuba
For those who have visited the Hakuba Valley before, you’ll know how vast the area is, with lots of different village areas and 10 ski resorts spanning the valley. For first time visitors however, the layout of Hakuba can prove confusing, making choosing accommodation tricky. Read on as we delve into the best spots and our top accommodation picks in three of Hakuba’s most popular neighbourhoods: Happo village, Wadano Forest and Echoland.
CLASSIC AND CENTRAL: HAPPO VILLAGE
Happo One is without a doubt Hakuba’s most famous ski resort and with good reason! The largest of the 10 Hakuba Valley resorts, Happo One (One pronounced ‘oh-nay’) is home to the 1998 Winter Olympics downhill skiing race courses, an Olympic ski jumping stadium and thrilling views of the Japanese Alps mountain range. Combine that with the valley’s longest runs and most lifts, and it’s easy to see why Happo attracts so much attention and so many visitors each winter season. The Happo village area at the foot of the ski area features quaint winding streets lined with restaurants, bars, cafes, shops, onsen hot springs, shrines, ancient trees and is home to Happo Bus Terminal - a central hub not only for arrival and departure in Hakuba, but for accessing shuttles to the many other ski areas the Hakuba Valley has to offer. Basing yourself in the central location of Happo is ideal for first timers and seasoned visitors alike.

Perfect for: First time visitors - Being central to everything - Easy gondola/lift access – Onsens within walking distance.

Avoid if: You are looking for a more off the beaten track experience.
