Kiroro resort, traditionally a day-trip favourite from Niseko resort, has increasingly become a destination in its own right for powder snow lovers and those wishing to avoid some of the more crowded Hokkaido resorts. The resort is located about an hour and change from Sapporo City and just over 30 minutes from the historical town of Otaru, which makes a fantastic day trip from the resort.
Kiroro ski resort enjoys the incredible powder dumps long associated with northern Japan, with some reports declaring an annual snowfall of anywhere from 17 to 21 meters! Either way, Kiroro is certainly one of the best ski resorts in Japan for amount of snowfall, no matter how you look at it. With more relaxed policies in recent years for out-of-bounds skiing and snowboarding, the resort is quickly becoming an off-piste powder-seekers paradise.
Unlike some of the other Hokkaido ski resorts such as Niseko and Furano, Kiroro does not have any kind of village area at its base and its accommodation options are limited to three luxury-style ski-in-ski-out hotels. This makes it perfect for those seeking easy access to the lifts and a higher quality of accommodation with everything in-house and at your fingertips. Despite the small size, the resort serves up some excellent dining options, with over 15 different cafes and restaurants, both western and Japanese style.
Kiroro resort offers both beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders plenty of groomed runs and for the more advanced adventure seekers, tree-skiing is now permitted and accessed via gates. Families will enjoy Kiroro for the convenience of ski in / ski out access, with a kids snow park area offering and other non-ski activities like tubing, tobogganing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing. Kiroro also has an onsite International ski school. For more information, including Kiroro trail map and services including Kiroro ski pass and Kiroro rental, click on the tabs below.
